Pop Quiz, Hot Shot!

I was watching Jeopardy! yesterday and it's the Teen Tournament, which I love because I get 90% of the questions right, whereas normally, it's like 30%. Anyway. So I was watching and they had this category called 'Novel Synopsis' where they gave you a summary of a novel plot, and you had to guess the novel. Sort of like the GRE English Lit ( Read more... )

Oh, man, considering how many of those were guesses, I feel dumb now. *headsmack*

Pride and Prejudice is Austen, of course. Ender's Game is *spits* Orson Scott Card. Catcher in the Rye is J.D. Salinger. The Jungle is Upton Sinclair, I think. The Fountainhead is by Ayn Rand. I could make educated guesses on some of the others, but since I didn't recognize the books, I figure that's not fair.

I guess I give you the authors that I answered? Is that how that works?

1. Virginia Woolf
2. Jane Austen
3. I'm sure I got this wrong, and I have no idea
4. Richard Wright? Is that right? Man, this goes back to Jr. High. I am old.
5. JD Salinger
6. Er, George Sand? George Elliot? One of those women named George. I think it's Sand.
7. I don't know if I got this right, but The Awakening was written by Kate Chopin
8. Ethan Frome was written by someone whom I can't recall at the moment. Grrr. Willa Cather, maybe? Some woman whose work I haven't read.
9. Sinclair Lewis
10. Ayn Rand

So, how'd I do? This is fun! I hope no one gives us a math quiz tomorrow! ;)

OMG, I hate you (where hate=love, for making me relive my undergraduate days. Or at least the non-engineering part of them.)

Ok, so.

Mrs. D - no idea
P&P - JaneyBaby
Native Son - gah, I just had this long, involved discussion about how, no, this really isn't an awful book, you stupid pretentious white upper middle class brat. But, the author isn't coming back to me.
Catcher - JD, and dear lord, can he grow up now?
Middlemarch - uh, not Louisa May Alcott, huh? George something?
Ethan Frome - God, I've blocked it from memory. Self-preservation is a wonderful thing.
Jungle - Upton Sinclair
Fountainhead - Ayn Rand, who I'd just like to smack on principle
