The Nook Color and power cords

Aug 18, 2012 14:35

I had to replace my power cord for the third time today. The little metal piece that inserts into the Nook is flimsy at best. The problem is that you can't buy a different cord for it to charge the Nook with, it has to be the cord from Barnes and Noble. It use to be that when you replaced the cord, you had to buy the ac adapter and the cord ( Read more... )

I've had my Fire since January. Wish I could offer some kind of comparison, Patty, but I really don't use the power cord that often. Maybe once a month, when it looks like the battery is getting low.

My granddaughter just got a Nexus, which she loves. I've never seen her using the power cord, though. She likes Google Play, but I still prefer Amazon for all my movie, TV, music, and book needs! My daughter wants a Prime membership now, because it gives you access to the free library, so she'd get one free book a month. That's my daughter--loves free stuff, lol! :)

Once a month?!?! That's it? We have to charge the Fire a lot, but Lily watches a variety of programs and plays games on it. I also have a lot of issues sometimes getting it to fit just so in order for the device to charge. (Never had any issues with my nook or other devices, but something with the Fire doesn't link up just right or it has to be set just so and not touched while charging.)

Never had a problem connecting and, yes, once a month. Keep in mind that I'm one person and a very gentle user, like I think I told you one time, so maybe that has something to do with it! :)

Mine had issues well before Lily was every allowed to use it so I know it's not kid related. I just know it's used a lot so that might be why we need to charge more frequently. After all my original nook is charged pretty regularly but then again I read all the time on it as well.

My mom hasn't informed me of any issues she's had with her nook color, but I can bet that's frustrating. I have somewhat similar issues with my Kindle Fire in that you have to have it set 'just so' otherwise it won't charge.

I've considered getting an ipad after B&N gets their nook study to work on it. However, I'm going to wait until it is available and make sure it doesn't have be attached to internet 24/7 in order to use it. (Otherwise it defeats the purpose.) Especially considering it's been in the works for quite some time. I have a few gift cards I've been saving so we'll see, I haven't decided if it's worth it or not just yet. It would be nice to read my textbooks away from the computer, but the ipad is still at least $300 for the 1st generation.

We thought about the ipad, but it is still kind of expensive. My oldest son has one, so when we go back to Jersey next month I will see if he will let me play around with it a little and see if I actually like it.

Yes, that's why I'm still sitting on the fence. I know I'd use it regularly for school, but is it worth paying that much? Then again, I know a lot of people that bought theirs when it was $500 or more... I doubt it will go much cheaper than it currently is because after all they'll only continue to update and put out new devices and eventually the older generations will just be removed from the market. (Such as my original nook.)

My parents own a Xoom and my mother is considering getting her own ipad and letting my father keep the xoom.

It is a shame that they don't continue to sell the original Nook. I like mine. and do still use it occasionally. Mostly for reading fan fiction. but it still works good, and I've never had a complaint with it.

This probably won't be much help, but I will say that a number of my co-workers have iPads and use them continuously for business, as in ALL the time. They love them, swear by them and wouldn't even consider another device. So, if you decide to spend the money on one, I'm sure it'll be worth it. I don't have one, but I do have an iPhone where I have the nook & the kindle apps downloaded in addition to the native iBooks. I use those apps interchangeably ALL the time and love them, even though the screen is small. I was planning on buying an iPad myself, but my husband's job situation kind of put that plan on hold. However, an iPad is definitely in my future, whenever that happens.

When we go to New Jersey next month to see my son, and his family, I will see if he will let me play around with his. I really want to see if I will like it before I spend that kind of money on it. Regardless, I can't do anything until we get my mom out here and get her settled. So that means no big purchases until at least Christmas.

I had to set up my aunt's Color Nook for her, and I'll tell you what, that thing was complicated to set up! Once I got it set up, I was amazed at how slow it was, and the lag it had. I'd never been on a Nook before and after that I wasn't interested in getting one.

I use the Kindle app on my iPad3, and it works great! I had thought about getting a Kindle Fire, but when I found out I was getting my free iPad, I resisted buying one.

You would think they would work on improving the cable, how frustrating for you.
