In think I support the concept of a Bill Of Rights. However a friend (a lawyer for Legal Aid) whose opinion I respected expressed reservations once on the grounds that such legislation reflects our conception of rights at one moment in time while ever-evolving Common Law reflects our conceptions of rights over time. I have reservations about such a Bill as having things written down in such a fashion becomes too open for abuse, somewhat ironically. Engendering a culture that values fairness and justice is more effective than announcing 'These are the thign you have a Right to.' I feel the extent to which Americans cling to their Bill of Rights is not helpful when it actually comes to addressing human rights issues.
