I got that GetUp message and am thinking of attending one of those sessions. You thinking of attending? Company may be an incentive to attend.

In think I support the concept of a Bill Of Rights. However a friend (a lawyer for Legal Aid) whose opinion I respected expressed reservations once on the grounds that such legislation reflects our conception of rights at one moment in time while ever-evolving Common Law reflects our conceptions of rights over time. Hmmm...

P S Hehehe while traveling to and from ACT I read a detective novel by Kerry Greenwood set in 1920s Melbourne and one of its settings was the Windsor!

I get back from Canberra that afternoon, so could only make the 6pm session. Would that work for you? Company would definitely make it more fun!

Hmmm. The Victorian Human Rights Bill was raised in the conversations my class was having with the Corporate Responsibilty representatives of a Certain Telco. I didn't realise the extent to which the public was having a say.

I have reservations about such a Bill as having things written down in such a fashion becomes too open for abuse, somewhat ironically. Engendering a culture that values fairness and justice is more effective than announcing 'These are the thign you have a Right to.' I feel the extent to which Americans cling to their Bill of Rights is not helpful when it actually comes to addressing human rights issues.

Or something like that.
