I'm not sure how much of a profit a small family farm could earn. Right now the price is high because it's so difficult to get. Once it becomes legal that will likely change.
At the licensed 'dispensaries' in Colorado, the prices are roughly the same as what they are on the street. So we're still talking about a much greater earning potential than grains or dairy products.
I don't think it would reduce the price to legalize it. You can enter a coffee shop in Amsterdam and be able to choose from several different types of pot; the cost ranges from less than 10 Euros/gram to more than twice that. The connoisseur's need for quality versus the occasional smoker's desire for a rainy day buzz PLUS the government taxes and duty that would be levied on pot would ensure the price of pot stays the same, if not rise.
