My favorite negative review of "Smothers Brothers Grimm" (the Fringe play for which I was playing music) was one person who wrote: "Bring the kids...and take a nap." I laughed so hard. I laughed because you can't take a review like that seriously...

If they had put some thought into it and made some actual critical observations, I might listen, but to pass off a review like they were some low-class Oscar Wilde is ridiculous and they should receive all the respect they deserve, which is none...

My favorite review for Brain Fighters was by a guy who blamed the show for the fact that his kid threw a tantrum so bad that he had to remove the kid from the audience. I was there and remember the incident and know the guy was at the most there for ten minutes and I had brought a 4 year old and a 6 year old who both not only loved the show but were also able to somehow not roll around on the ground kicking and screaming. In fact, they loved the show and were so entranced they didn't even notice the other kid freaking out. What kind of nerve does it take to take the time to write a negative review for a show you only saw for ten minutes and you left because your own kid decided to have a meltdown??? It's worse than petty, its outright defamation, slander, libel, and dare I say villifacationous. Oops, that last one may not be an actual word.
