The flip side of this are people who spam the room over something that could be handwaved.

Fun, innit?

I think this command lets the gift or what have you be revealed to those who want to read it without spamming a room.

So if a player's concerned about spam, go about it +declaring in the non-spam fashion.

which generally is going to require at least one line of 'ooc page for declares kthxbye'

1 additional line of 'spam' for saving everyone the chat ain't so bad.

Now, tokens are another issue. Those can't be +declare/offered without spamming the room.

Many of the Pathi gifts don't lend themselves to +declare/offer too well, as they are meant to be used with +declare/combo. Using /offer will expose the whole gift rather than the relevant section--now, I don't particularly care in most cases, but the whole gift (one of the Terms) is probably in the vicinity of 15-20 lines or so.

And beyond this issue, each use requires a minimum of 3 gifts, and since I can combine freely, I believe that there are single spells I cast that use 8 gifts at once. Hmm, I wonder if I can up with one that uses 10 or even 12? :)

A very valid argument, though my experience is usually that if you wind up using one gift combo, other combos tend to make a debut shortly thereafter anyway. In any case, there's nothing preventing you from doing a Joe-type-1 ('Declare of the base effect available, please page') + Joe-type-2 (+declare/offers of all the adder-on gifts you're using)

In any case, if it isn't declared, how do we know you aren't just making stuff up? Or ignoring important restrictions? Intentionally or unintentionally?

Which does happen...

I don't know about other people but I'm limited on what I do know by what I can access. So unless people make the offer with the declare, I have no idea what they can and cannot do with their various gifts because those gifts are locked to me.

So just from a curiousity standpoint, I like to see the +declare used so I can go Ooooh Shiny!

Or, I guess, just plain 'ooc For a metric ton of declares, please page.' Joe-type-1 apparently does make sense sometimes.

Also remember that any time anyone does anything that makes you go 'Huh?' it is within your rights to ask for the declare.

Sometimes when that happens, I get a reply with a paraphrase and am left sort of dumbfounded.

Perhaps I should have chosen a different word. You can demand the +declare. Lying about what gifts you possess, or what they are capable of, is considered OOC deception about IC matters and is most definitely a breach of good faith.

Echoing Kaukai:

You are entitled to the formal declare. In fact, I would generally assume that someone who is not willing to show it to you is lying.

+declare/offer makes the gift available to read without spamming people. I highly encourage its use in exactly the way Petrus suggests. Note that the alert for a +declare/offer is less text than paging people to ask if they want to see a declare, and conveniently highlighted by the RPG: so it's easy to edit out of a log.

Thanks for pointing out the +declare/offer code! I never even realized it existed.

Personally, I love to be spammed by +declares, but I certainly see the functionality of offering instead, especially in large scenes with multiple combatants. Any of which being Kynan. ;D (<3 u, Kynan!!!)
