What Would Jane Read? (Episode 1: My Little Free Library, #9136)
"What Would Jane Austen Read?" is a new feature I'll be running occasionally. It stars my Jane Austen action figure, who will visit different Little Free Libraries and be photographed at each. Sometimes she might want to check out other kinds of free book shelves that are not official Little Free Libraries. Jane's not picky; she just loves books. But you already knew that.
(To travel to long-distance LFLs, Action Jane's alter-ego, Paper Jane, may take her place, since she can be mailed to them, Flat Stanley-like.)
But first, I should introduce you to beloved English novelist Jane Austen (1775-1817). She and I share a birthday (Dec. 16) and a love of words.
Here is Action Figure Jane in her stylish, pink and white Regency-style dress. She came with a tiny book and quill pen, but she won't be carrying those around until I can come up with a little bag that can go over her arm, so she can carry them without worrying about losing them.

Jane recently began her quest to see Little Free Libraries by visiting my own LFL#9136, also known as The Little Free Library of Alexandria Ave. and Hancock. Of the books shown in the box below, what do you think Jane would like? Or, in other words:

Of Jane's choices here, I'm thinking The Mermaid Chair, by Sue Monk Kidd. It's got complex family relationships, a female main character whose life feels "molded to the smallest space possible," and a forbidden love interest who is handsome, compelling, and tragic. I think Jane would approve (of the book, not the illicit love affair).
