If you had one of those locator chips that SG1 have that allow for them to be beamed aboard the ships, would it be possible to locate a person wearing one if the ship wasn't around? Say if someone went missing from Earth, could the person be tracked from the SGC by their chip ( Read more... )

I think they can be tracked from the SGC. Didn't they use Cam's chip to find him in Memento Mori? When Vala had him tied to the bed?

Well, I'm not positive about the Memento Mori thing, so you might want to check out the transcript. And have fun! Filling plot holes is a challenge.

No, you're right. If you're on Earth, you can be tracked with the locator chip. The Trust carved it out of Vala in that same episode when they first kidnapped her.

Now mind you, they didn't have those things until towards the end of Season Nine. In "Ethon", Daniel still had an ankle band locator that they took off him. I think "Off the Grid" was the first use of the inserted chips... *pauses to remember SG-1 in leather*....

...

Okay. I'm back. What were we talking about?

Oh, yes, the chips. So if your fic is pre-S9/Off the Grid, you're gold. If after and it's on Earth, you've got to wank some kind of thing that accidentally/on purpose blocks out the frequency or have people do a bit of surgery.

Maaaaaaaaybe an electromagnetic pulse could screw up the chip? Or is it protected against that kinda stuff? My post-season 8 knowledge is pretty lame.

I worked something out :) My post season 8 knowledge is pretty sketchy. My head prefers to go to what they didn't show in season 9 and 10... Sam and Jack living happily ever after... :)

YES. That would be nice. :) There's fishing, and then nothing else matters. :)
