I must admit that, so far, as far as my Spn fan arts were concerned I went into an "epic" and "heroic" approach of the characters that is to say most of the time Dean posing with the Colt like a rock star or Sam revealing his dark side.
Great. But I actually forgot that :
1) I have a very particular sense of humor when it comes to zombies, monsters and B-series genre movies or pop culture related stuff in general (just check out my
Resident Evil fan arts if you have a doubt)
2) Supernatural is actually a show full of that particular humor when it also comes to zombies, B-series genre movies, etc..well you go the picture and if you don't just remember the hand of that poor guy completely crushed in the "Home" episode in Season I. Saying that the walls were redecorated in red is an understatement (yeah but it was also awesome... ^o^)
So for once then, no fan art with a moody Dean holding the Colt or Sam torn between Good and Evil. Let's say that it is just some fun with the way the Winchester boys consider a day at the office....
I must admit that I had a lot of fun drawing that piece. I always wanted to add more blood and the skeleton was due to have all its organs spread on the floor but finally I thought it was a little bit too much even if one or two lungs displayed on the floor would have been awesome.
Let's talk about technique
This piece was created with Photoshop CS, Painter Essential Pro and Illustrator. I drew the whole thing with Photoshop CS using a basic brush (it's a default brush, with an opacity of about 30%) and added all the tiny details with the Chalk tool of Painter (eyes, hair, clothes stitches, etc...). I also used the Acrylics brush for, for instance, Sam's jacket and Dean's shoes. At the end to give a "dirty" effect I added with the stamp tool a texture I easily created myself : I took a dirty piece of paper full of coffee and ink stains, scanned it and used it as a texture. Easy !! ^^
The element that was just a pain in the ass to create was the tile floor. It was boring, monotonous. I used Illustrator to be sure that the pattern would be regular then opened the file in Photoshop to add it to the rest with the stamp tool. I wanted to use a stock image of a tile floor but impossible to find what I wanted exactly so I had to do everything myself. Argh!!
I used my own shoes as a reference to draw Dean's shoes ^^
