Hitsugaya slipped his hands inside the wide sleeves of his yukata with slow and precise moves. His fingertips were starting to get cold, and so did the sword on his back. He focused a bit, to clear his mind, to stop himself from freezing the whole hill behind him, from changing the weather.

He did it to think about himself too.

His eyes didn't move from Mello, and his face was stern.

"What you did just now," his voice was icy "makes me wonder if you cheated on your IQ test."

Mello felt almost like crying himself, which was ridiculous. He didn't cry! He never cried, no matter what happened! So he'd made a mistake and everyone probably hated him now; that was hardly anything new. So Hitsugaya has said one of the worst insults he possible could have, something that really stung. He already knew he wasn't good enough; hearing it again shouldn't matter, no matter who said it!

"You're right," he said, his voice flat and nearly devoid of emotion. "I'm an idiot and it was a mistake. I'm sorry."

Mello turned and started walking away. It was obviously long past time for him to go home.
