"RENJI!" Before the poor man had time to react, Matsumoto had already wrapped her arm around him and pulled him tight for a friendly hug. "I haven't seen you in ages. Why've you been hiding from me?"

She took a moment to look at Byakuya, who definitely had an interesting bunny-type accessory, and Rukia, who looked positively entraced by said bunny... Perhaps she was going to have to do more than chaperone. Quick, Rangiku! Bring sanity to the situation!

"And wouldn't you know? My yukata won't close over these things either!" That wasn't the way to do it.

"Matsumoto-san! Hitsugaya-taichou! You two are here!" Rukia said, almost bouncing with excitement. And then she spotted Mello. "....ah. Mello is here too."

She tried to keep a neutral face.

"You all look wonderful in your yukata! Well except for Mello, who isn't wearing one. WHY AREN'T YOU WEARING ONE?" she made a face at him.

"Because I had to drive here? And it would get in the way." Mello grinned at her. "Besides, I didn't want to."

Rukia rolled her eyes.

"Well it's your loss. You just look weird now."

Mello rolled his eyes at this. "We have a talking fish with us. Nothing looks weird compared to that. Besides, no one really expects a foreigner to wear one to a festival."

"Trout-san isn't even here right now!" Rukia scowled at him. "That's not the point! You should have worn one so you would fit in with the group! Honestly, Mello!"

"It will be. And no one will miss us then. Not that they are likely to now." He grinned and stuck his tongue out at her briefly. "Maybe I don't want to fit in with you; did you ever think of that?"

"FINE. BE THAT WAY," she huffed. But then an idea came to her and she smiled a little evilly. "But all that means is that we're going to have more fun going to the clothing booths."

She turned away and stomped off to the front of the group before he could reply again.

"Masumo-o-san..." came the rather muffled reply. Renji's arms flailed more than a little bit as he was hauled down and squished. He lifted his hands and placed them on Matsumoto's shoulders to bring himself up right.

"I've been busy."

"Too busy for a bit of sake?" Matsumoto tutted softly and winked at Renji. "Understood." She let him go and turned to look at Mello--who she then quickly looked away from--and clapped her hands together.

"What's the plan?"
