what's it like to be back?

yeah, honestly, i don't know. i've had that question a lot, but i don't really have an answer yet. i need to find a job, figure out where i'm going to live, figure out what the rhythms of my life are going to be, get on something remotely resembling a regular sleep schedule, start eating (well), etc. that's sort of what i'm focusing on. i ( Read more... )

Easy answer, from one who has traveled: it's F'n wierd to be back in the same place I left, but not be the same person. Keep the journal going for your own sanity, and to be the basis for articles/book you will write someday. MHB

Marty, I had the journal for a really long time before the trip, and I'm keeping it afterwards, too. Only I think I'll go back to the friends-only posts, cos then I can say what I want without worrying about my audience. It's basically the same thing, only with my swearing and lots more ad hominem attacks on specific people from my life---in other words, it's way more fun.

Yeah, that'd be a bit weirder of a title. But...having been somewhere where we stick out like nobody's business, I think you and I both understand a lot better what it's like to be a minority. I'm definitely not saying I understand what it's like to be black, but I do understand it better than I did a year ago.
