A portal opened and Jessica stepped out onto a Manhattan rooftop at night. At first she wasn't sure where this Ben Reilly guy was. Her wrist device suggested he should be right here. And then her spider-sense started blaring. She dodged with a leap backwards as a guy in a pretty weird Spider-Man costume dropped out of the sky with a huge man below him to cushion the landing.
"Me," Jessica said, leaping over the charging Kingpin. She webbed him in the eyes, then webbed his heels as she landed behind him, yanking the lines until he crashed onto the roof. Once he was down, she hit him with a web net. "She didn't think I could take this chump."
"ARGH!" Ben cried as Verna's razor sharp nails cut into his arm. She was so fast. Impossibly fast. His spider-sense was just about useless here. That wasn't encouraging.
All that, and she didn't take more than a step backward. Worse, she followed it with a step forward and a trust to Ben's chest, throwing him into Jessica and knocking both down onto a skylight. "I've played with my food enough. Now it's time for a feast."
"Yeah, sorry, but I don't really feel like being lunch right now," Jessica said before pounding on the skylight, smashing it and sending herself and Ben falling toward the floor below. Before they hit, Jessica her her portal device.
As Verna watched below her, a blue portal opened up and swallowed both Spiders. No matter. She had their scent. And even better, she could sense Fandom on them. They would lead he right to her goal. The Great Hunt was on.
