Room 313, Wednesday evening [NFB]

Jan 18, 2006 21:20

Taking a break from the StuCo meet and greet, Peter opened his door and let Isabel in.

He sat on his bed, gestured for her to sit in his computer chair, and then spoke. "Okay, we really need to talk about something. I'm pretty sure you know what it is."

She sat in the chair and pulled her legs up, resting her chin on her knees. "Maybe."

Peter was still only working off of suspicions, but he decided to lay his cards on the table.

"I had a dream the other night. A nightmare, really. I've had it plenty of times before, but this time was a bit different. You were there. I was narrating. Any of this sound familiar?" Peter asked.

She seemed to get a bit smaller in the chair. In was inevitable that he would ask given how she'd wandered through is dream. But Angel knew, and now Peter was going to know...

"I didn't do it on purpose," she said a bit defensively.

"I believe you," Peter said. "I've heard about other people accidentally getting into people's dreams here. I'm just worried about what you saw."

"I don't know. What if my responsibility is something that's so big and so important that what I want doesn't really matter?" The rug looked really interesting to Isabel. "I think being here is what I need. But my brother says I'm being selfish."

[ooc: Last night I couldn't get her to talk, now she won't shut up. Sorry.]

Peter spoke softly, "What you want and what you need are two different things. I've wanted to give up being Spider-Man. I want to have a normal life. I want some people to be with me. But what I need is to help people. Even if it does hurt to do so."

There may have been a hint that he wasn't talking about stopping criminals or dead people. But if there was, he definitely wasn't going to talk about it right now.

"God do I get that. I want that same normal life. I want a family, a future. I don't want to worry about the FBI making me their newest lab rat to be dissected. Or be afraid that some mysterious enemy is going hurt someone just because they're close to me." Her eyes might have been a bit bright and her voice a little shaky, but that was the only sign how much the conversation affected her.

"But apparently I need to be one of the rescuers of a planetful of people I don't remember, and know nothing about."

"Well, I think you win at scale of responsibility," Peter said. "Look, Isabel, seriously. All you can do right now is what's right for you. If that includes being here, you have to be here. You'll be no use to that planet - and I still can't believe I'm actually saying anything about another planet - if you're not mentally ready for it. It doesn't sound like you are right now."

"You have to do what you have to do."
