Hello Kiddies,
There have been a number of posts and eulogies on the passings of icons Bea Arthur and Dom DeLuise. I enjoyed their work and will miss them, aside from that, I can't really say much that hasn't been already.
I recently found out one of my fave movie icons passed away very quietly a few months ago.
Robert Quarry's death didn't make any headlines (the folks at Fangoria
did a fine tribute to him), as a matter of fact I only found out about it through surfing about randomly one day. He was a prolific character actor of his time and brought his characters to life, especially the role for which he was best known, the suave and diabolical
Count Yorga. Quarry was supposed to succeed the likes of Christopher Lee and Vincent Price as a horror icon, but that sadly did not occur as those stylized horror movies were a dying genre.
Still, it has to be said that those movies SCARED THE LIVING SHIT OUTTA ME as a kid when I caught them on TV and they remain faves to this day. While Robert Quarry may have gone to that big graveyard in the sky, Count Yorga will live forever in our hearts and late-night TV movies.
Here's a good interview with Quarry
on his most famous role and of course a clip of the trailer for the undead masterpiece, 'The Return of Count Yorga'!
