Vietnamese restaurants - part 4
This time we went to Pho 2000 (198 Adams St) for Vietnamese crepes. These are savory crepes made of rice batter with a filling of bean spouts, little shrimp, thin pork strips, and some other stuff I'm forgetting. They're cooked so that the shell is crispy. Fun with the TSA
On my return from San Francisco I was wearing my knee braces. Apparently neoprene knee braces (with no metal components) are too much for their new high tech scanners and gain one a pat down. My peeve is not that I get a pat down. What annoys me is that I could have taken then off and saved everyone time - if they had bothered to mention it ( Read more... ) -

Vietnamese restaurants, part 2
Went out for Vietnamese food again with my Vietnamese coworker on Friday. This time we went to Ahn Hong. He thinks they have the best "Seven kinds of beef" dish in Boston. Seven kinds of beef is not really one dish; it's a whole meal. There's a progression of plates of thinly slices beef seasoned in different ways that you put into a spring ( Read more... ) -

Went out to lunch today with a Vietnamese co-worker. He not only knew the name of the caramelized pork and onion dish that I'd feared was lost to history after my favorite Fields Corner restaurant closed, he knew which place here does it best. Circle of Life?
I saw an unsettling Circle of Life moment today. As I pulled into the driveway, I saw a small shower of debris come down from the branch of a tree that overhangs the foot of our driveway. Soon after, a small shape fell followed by a diving bird. The bird, a jay, landed and began stabbing at the small shape with its beak in a most predatory fashion ( Read more... ) -
The new Precious!!!
The new Precious arrived today! (A Canon 7D MkII) I rented one about a month back, so I've already got a feel for what it can do. This weekend I'll be taking it to a wildlife photography workshop where we'll be trying to photograph piping plovers ( Read more... )
