I think of Angel as being a coward in earlier episodes of BtVS - School Hard comes to mind. Xander went to get Angel for help and if I am not mistaken Angel runs away after his confrontation with Spike and that Xander had to make him go to the Master's lair in Prophecy girl. I also remember that Angel's character didn't always step up when it would have been helpful. This was a case where he really was a coward and showed that Spike was the better man (vampire).

The cognac is an elaborate effort to make things up to Spike, as well as memorialize Drusilla, but regardless of it's price it doesn't make up for it. Thankfully, Spike is forgiving as well as passionate for his first love.

You're absolutely right, Xander had to practically threaten him with holy water to get him to come. Spike's the better vampire, always. At least he always took responsibility for his actions.

Thank you so much. And yeah, that's how I've always seen it. I didn't even like him on ATS until the second season was over, then he started to get a personality
