Non-transformation

There's almost no point in pausing anymore. The instinct seems to either have it or has developed an expertise in faking it. Surely the conscience can swim through the shallow pools of regret that continue to develop in the attic, ego pushing forward, waders on, wiping the sweat from its brow ( Read more... )

It all actually comes down to sweat, doesn't it? How can we prove our love without the visible proof of effort?

In a lot of ways, it really does. What someone indicates is meant or states doesn't always carry much weight, especially when it's contradicted by their actions. In those cases, trust crubles like pig-iron in acid. It's one of the things I really respect about the 12-step programs; they focus a great deal on taking of actions and not just sitting around developing insight. Sure, you can find out how your parents weren't nice or fair, but it doesn't do a damned thing about whether or not you still act like an asshole to those around you.

One of the things I've really liked and tried to hold on to is the idea that love isn't a feeling. If you look it up, it's actually a verb, which means it's an ACTION. Sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's not, but it always requires some degree of effort.

Without doubt. As Scott Lee says, I always gave my self credit for my intentions. Intentions are followed by still more intentions, whereas decisions are followed by action.
Good stuff, palpable, tangible, and wholly unquantifiable.

Yeah, I can relate to that some, too. I don't think I ever gave myself full credit for intentions equaling action, but I probably did give at least half-credit on far too many occasions.

At least for me, I'd have to say that even decisions aren't always followed by actions. They're more likely to be followed by 'em, but even then it's not 100%. Because of that, I really have tended to focus more and more on just what's done as the benchmark for those things....regardless of intention or decision or expression.

Good stuff, palpable, tangible, and wholly unquantifiable.

Oh, I'm not so sure about that. I just ordered in a big ol' jar of 750 tabs of 1250 organic SLU's*!
