New Doctor Who's Women

Sep 28, 2014 12:22

I am really loving Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, and I love the relationship between Twelve and Clara most of the time, but having watched last night's episode (The Caretaker), I am getting really tired of New Who insisting that the companion should choose between her boyfriend and the Doctor, and making her a prize for the males to fight ( Read more... )

Ugh. I've seen this so many times, and I'm so damn sick of it. Like women are incapable of having a relationship with a man while having a friendship with a man...

It really is infuriating that men still believe this crap in the 21st century! Doctor Who needs some female script writers at the very least (what I'd really like is a female showrunner!)

Agree with both! I don't watch DW anymore, but I hate the concept of a female companion having to choose between the man she loves and the Doctor.

Yes. It was a tired trope back in 2005. It should be dead and buried by now.

I have a ridiculous adoration for Capaldi as the Doctor, so love watching him even when he's being a pig. Shame on me, right? But he was being too piggish to Danny about how a former soldier had to be a PE teacher, not a math teacher -- hello, Brigadier? (I don't even like Danny as he's usually written, and that was too much ( ... )

I felt like reminding Danny that plenty of soldiers don't SHOW their fear, even if they're feeling it - they just get on with what needs to be done.

I come at this from a slightly different angle, which may or may not be accurate. Ever since The Eleventh Hour, it's been quite clear that Moffat is rewriting all the shit Rusty got wrong--and let's face it, there was a lot. I see this storyline as a continuation of that process. That was clearly the point of the whole Amy/Rory/Eleven thing--Eleven rejects her attempt to kiss him, forms an actual, healthy relationship with Rory...totally opposite of how Nine/Ten handled Rose and Mickey. That, I found refreshing ( ... )

Given the Doctor's now telling everyone he's over 2000 years old, harping on about the actor's age is really the most pointless and dumbest thing they could do ( ... )
