I agree with everything you said here, but wish to add the completely superficial fact that River Song has marvellous fashion sense. ;)

I like River because she's a grown-up, and the fact that Doctor trust her and she him means that he grows up.

I like to see the Doctor's ego punctured occasionally. He can be pretty arrogant on occasion (especially Ten) because he knows more than most of the people he meets - so it's nice to see someone who knows at least as much as he does, and in some respects, more (in this River aspect reminds me of Romana).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees how in some way, she is like Romana.

This x100, thank goodness. She's got everything - her own life, a definite style, a strong relationship with the Doctor, and is so much fun. She keeps him on his toes, and he can't help being drawn to her. And she was under a lot of pressure when she first met Donna and I still think they came out okay, but the easy way she engages with Amy just shows her warmth and friendship, too.

(in this aspect River reminds me of Romana)

Definitely get Romana I vibes off her, which is no bad thing at all!

*nods vigorously* I love that she's independent of him, yet still cares about him and wants to spend time with him...

And yes, River & Amy - I can't help shipping them, just a bit! *smirks*

I like the character just fine. I like the mystery too, which is why I hoped and believed we wouldn't see any more of her after the Library, but obviously that's not what she was for and now we get to find out what.

I've always wanted to see more of River - I just wasn't sure it'd happen.
