I never minded the Doctor lite episodes..."Love and Monsters" was a bit weak, but it was the first time they'd done something similar.

I can't watch 'Love and Monsters' - I detest the ending so much it colours my enjoyment of the rest of it...

Yeah, I'm with you there, Pers! Though being a big ELO fan, I love that they included music from that group!

Oh, I agree - ELO is very delightful! And I love the concept of L.I.N.D.A. generally. I just detest what they did to Ursula...

- Sally sees Martha and the Doctor getting out of a taxi outside the shop: Martha's carrying a quiver of arrows, and Ten's carrying a bow. It's Robin and Xena!! :D

LOL!

Definitely one of my favorite NW eps.

:D

I love the Ten and Martha stuff because they're so relaxed together. Plus, Martha looks WAY hawt in her Xena outfit!

I love the moment when Larry joins Sally on the pavement, with the milk bottle in his hand, and Sally, having handed over the folder to the Doctor, looks up at him and takes his hand. She's let go of her obsession, so she's ready to take hold of whatever life has to offer instead.

I often think of Moff's episodes and the Doctor-lite ones as foreshadowing the fundamental nature of the shift/change/end of the Doctor/Companion relationship; in this case (Moff & Doctor-lite), we get a real demonstration of the decision that Martha makes later.

I found it interesting that people were so taken with this one that it was number 2 on the list, particularly since the Doctor has so little screen time; it's more the idea of him that pervades the episode, which would seem to indicate the potential for less audience-satisfaction, but it doesn't.

Yes, it was a surprise to me that it was so popular...

I've always thought that even though this episode features very little of the Doctor & his companion, it shows just how much Steven Moffat *gets* Doctor Who.

I think I'm also one of a very small minority of people who don't find the Weeping Angels scary

Well, the first time I watched this, my computer was in a walk-in-closet, and I was in complete darkness, and yeah... I jumped. XD

Do you ever notice that the ultimate threat to a little old human to get them to apprehend the bad guy is that the bad guy will in some way "switch off the sun"?

Seems like it would be a fairly difficult feat to accomplish. ;P

Kathy's future husband must have been quite a forward thinking guy seeing as she showed up in a pair of rather snug blue jeans! I've always wondered about that...

Martha's carrying a quiver of arrows, and Ten's carrying a bow. It's Robin and Xena!! :D

LOL

Oh, yes!! And I'm sure Martha's battle cry is awesome! Now, where is her ridiculously skimpy warrior costume?? ;D

I always laugh at Martha chivvying the Doctor alongEven ( ... )

Well quite! I'd love to see her in Leela's outfit, just once... Rawr!!

Even though we only see Martha & the Doctor on screen together for a couple of minutes, I love their interaction. You can ( ... )

Sorry to have kept you waiting for so long!

Hee!

'Tis alright. I now know that I have the willpower to resist anything - even watching Doctor Who episodes before I supposed to. Heck, I think it even helped me remain semi-spoiler free for TWoM. ;)

Oh and now Sally's let herself into her friend's house in the middle of the night.
I always thought they were roommates. Is there something to the dialog between them on the phone that I'm missing?
There seems to be a lot of fond exasperation in their relationship at this point.
I usually say this is the only episode when the Doctor and Martha evince the usual Doctor-companion rapport.

Why would Sally be *phoning* her roommate at 1 am, when she could just go and knock on her door? Anyway, Kathy distinctly tells Sally that she's not coming out/round at that hour of the morning, which implies to me that they don't share a house.

I don't think it's the only one, but it's the best example in S3.

That's the bit I'm missing. I stand corrected. Wow, a whole, perhaps quasi-Doctorish aspect to the character that went right over my head.

I suppose I haven't reexamined my position on it since then. I can't think of an intervening example I like better though. (I've been told The Infinite Quest is good for that - probably by you - but I've still not seen it.)

It probably helps that I've watched that episode a number of times...

Yes, The Infinite Quest is another good example of the best kind of Doctor/companion interaction for Martha and Ten...
