You've chosen a few good stories to get started with here. However I would strongly recommend also seeing Dalek Invasion of Earth for its sheer awesomeness and The Time Meddler for Steven. And for the first time we meet another of the Doctor's race.

The Aztecs is a personal favorite. I adore it.

Edge was the story that first got me really shipping One/Barbara.

Tenth Planet makes me sad because I love the First Doctor that much and I hate to see him go. But the Cybermen are cool, and almost sympathetic creatures. For truly terrifying Cybermen, you need to see Tomb of the Cybermen.

The Romans I adore. The banter between One and Vicki is lovely and while the Ian and Barbara subplots can be upsetting, there's no denying the pure shippiness that is The Romans for Ian/Babs.

The War Machines. I'm quite excited about this finally being out on DVD. The end of the third episode is a wonderfully chilling scene that is almost duplicated in the Seventh Doctor's Remembrance of the Daleks. I enjoy this story quite a bit.

I'll see if I can get hold of them!

It was as good as I'd heard...

Heh!!

Tenth Planet makes me sad because I love the First Doctor that much and I hate to see him go. But the Cybermen are cool, and almost sympathetic creatures. For truly terrifying Cybermen, you need to see Tomb of the Cybermen.

I've seen Tomb - saw that one earlier in the year...

Very true, Ian and Babs are immensely shippy... The four of them clearly had a fab time with that story...

The War Machines. I'm quite ( ... )

I'm halfway through Dalek Invasion of Earth! So far, I'm really loving Barbara, and becoming quite fond of One. Susan's mostly done a lot of limping so far, but even she's becoming more active, and Ian is just awesome.

There is NO MOMENT IN ALL OF WHO that matches the end of ep 3 of The War Machines for SHEER BADASS.

I thought the plot device of the faulty spring was as tissue paper thin as any number of New Who plots (which just proves that the more things change, the more they stay the same!). The story reminded me of "Midnight" a little - insofar as "Edge" takes place entirely on board the TARDIS (so, essentially on one set), and features psychological heebie jeebies, rather than a physical threat. (I'm not accusing RTD of nicking the plot... *cough*)

LOL!

Hmm. These stories seem really interesting.

They were. It's not easy watching B&W TV - I miss the visual clues that you often get with colour TV from the set designers, costume makers, etc.

You know, the thing I've always found hardest about watching B&W TV is that I can't imagine anything in colour. I tried to visualise stuff in colour while I was watching Dalek Invasion of Earth, but I just couldn't, which is a bit silly, because of course Ian and Barbara and the others weren't really black and white, were they? But when I try to imagine it in colour, I just can't see it.

No, they weren't black and white! But I know what you mean.

Who knicks its own plots all the time. XD

I love The Tenth Planet, but the Cybermen's talking in this one CRACKS ME THE FUCK UP.

Along with The Sensorites, The Edge of Destruction, The Romans, and The War Machines are my absolute favorite One stories.

Too true!!

I love The Tenth Planet, but the Cybermen's talking in this one CRACKS ME THE FUCK UP.

I know! I must admit, I only had the book to go on, but I was laughing all the same!

Along with The Sensorites, The Edge of Destruction, The Romans, and The War Machines are my absolute favorite One stories.

I'll have to see if I can get hold of "The Sensorites" then...

It's not the lines so much as the way they look and sound. OH MY GOD. XD
