I missed the short interval when the rain stopped, so stayed at the office to watch Mastermind and whatnot, and in the end took a cab home.

Very sensible. A friend has just sent photos of his garden in Norfolk - his car's axle-deep and the water's just sluicing off the fields. That hasn't even been reported.
