Interesting. You handled both Dooku and Obi-Wan's grief over Qui-Gon very well, and I liked the advice Dooku gave.

Thank you! It was in some ways easier to show Obi-Wan's, since we'd seen it, but with Dooku we did have the clue that his grief at Qui-Gon's death, resentment of the Council for the way they were running things, and interest in tracking down the other Sith apparently helped get him in trouble. ...Rather rapidly, at that. (Abrupt as Anakin's fall strikes some people, Palpatine had in a lot of ways been working on him for over half the kid's life, much as he'd been working on the Republic; Dooku was having a fairly traumatic couple of years even before Qui-Gon died, if you go by the EU, and I'm sure Palpatine found longstanding faultlines to poke at, but even so....) It seemed likely that at this point he would make a point of appearing to handle things perfectly (mind, Obi-Wan's doing that too, I think) but the threat of his letting it fester should already be there.

Sorry. Rambling. :) Thanks again!

I hope you don't mind my posting here, as you don't even know me, but...

This is really good. Unfairly so, I think. I spent months carefully working out a way to write a realistic alternate universe, planning out all the little details for my own story, which is shaping up to be several hundred thousand words, and here you spring up an idea that would accomplish the same, albeit in a very different way, in less than three thousand. And it's totally believeable. Obi-Wan and Dooku together would be an excellent balance to teach Anakin, and... well, I'm sure you don't need me to tell you all that.

Thanks for this. It was lovely.

But I do know you, or at least I recognize you; you've commented on SBTT (which isn't dead, I swear, just... uh, sleeping... I'd really better get on the ball if I want to start something else for NaNo, huh?) before and I appreciated it there too ( ... )

Well, I didn't think you'd remember me from the SBTT comments, but I thank you for doing so ( ... )

You were memorable. :)

It occurs to me that it's interesting if, as a reader, you can enjoy a very open-ended short story that wouldn't satisfy your sense of... completeness if you'd written it.

And I actually do want to write an AU that follows out the consequences of a change on Anakin's story among others -- except I need cowriters for it *laughing* -- but I can think of more interesting ways to kick off the change than I can think of follow-throughs that are different enough in more than minor ways for people to want to read them.

I was actually trying to get around to a way to say: I'm flattered that you're impressed by my story. And I find it highly amusing that you can be impressed without having read it.Well, I'm impressed conceptually. *g ( ... )

curiosity have I-- which padawan does Dooku refer to here, as "dead, or by rumor, something worse"?

BTW the characterizations are wonderful.

Thank you!

Dooku is talking about Komari Vosa; at this point it should be less than two years, at any rate not more than three, since she was denied her Trials and ran off; we (or I, I think that was my line) took the liberty of suggesting that there are already rumors about her being alive and running the drug cult.

*Hugs this AU to self because it's very much in character and so perfect for them and it pisses of Sidious and that is ALWAYS a plus*

Would say more, but must run right now, sorry!

Oh, I stumbled on the Dooku community today, so I was reading as much as I could before I had to go in town for groceries. *Grins crookedly* Dooku's probably my favorite character amongst those most maligned in the SW prequel cast, aside from Asajj Ventress. There's just so much potential in him, as a character, and so much that could be written about him, still, even with a backstory as sketchy as the one the canon and EU give us!

I think this one was my favorite of the things that didn't happpen to Dooku, so far, but I think there's one more to go, still . . .

Hello again, and thank you! I think this would have been healthier for both of them if they'd managed it ( ... )

And I've a soft spot for Obi-Wan and Dooku.

Me too! I absolutely adore the idea of an Obi-Wan and Dooku friendship. There are some nice hints in the RotS novelization of Dooku wanting to keep Obi-Wan alive because "he's the closest thing I have to a grandson", and it just makes me awwww every time. :)

Thanks for the kind words!
