Um... Christchurch people? Do you still have internet / home / life?

Edit:So here's what happens when you spend the first half of a day with your head in a book and the second half of a day at a swimming pool with your best friend and a 5-year-old. You miss things. Like tectonic plates shifting like hell under Christchurch ( Read more... )

Hey, breathe. People you know could have been hurt or homeless or worse, and there wasn't anything you could have done about it, and I don't believe a single one of them would have wanted you to experience distress over it.

Your friends will be fine, or they won't, and if they aren't you need to be ready to do what you can for them when the time comes. That means not reducing yourself to a puddle beforehand. By going about your day and having a good time, you've done what was best for them and for you, and you've done what friends would have wanted.

It's pretty shit. And actually the warning for the 'coming earthquake' weren't related to this one at all. They're still worried about the Alpine fault which is still building pressure. This fault line was one no one knew about and is directly underneath us which is why it's so bad here, and why the West Coast hasn't sunk entirely into the ocean. That's still coming...

This is selfish, I know that...
I'm glad that I don't know any-one there.
I cried watching the footage of the fallen buildings and interviews, I think I would still be in bed hiding if I had any more of a connection with the area...
It's like a less horrible version of Marysborough*...
"I've been there, that's not supposed to happen!"

I'm from Christchurch and I lost it crying in public (which I never do) when I saw the Cathedral with its spire fallen down on a screen at the university.

It's okay for you to not have known immediately. It's okay. Really.

*snuggles* I had an emotional moment when I saw the picture of it. I can't imagine seeing the real thing having fallen :(

I'm glad that you are alright.
