Oh man, I really enjoyed this. Your editing is excellent, and I loved the intercuts of prison and him digging the hole at the beginning in particular. Great stuff!

Thanks!

I don't remember which came first, the song with it's suggestive title, or the idea to pair the digging with a chain-gang sound. It was all I could do not to make a three and half minute-long vid to just Charlie digging :P I so had the footage to do so!

This was... WOW! Absolutely amazing. The editing blew me away. I loved the way that you matched the digging to the chain sounds, and the way you kept flashing to the dog on a leash, and I adore the way that you managed to match everything to the lyrics. But wow, that editing was beautiful.

yay! The use of the dogs came later, after the seed of an idea for this vid was planted after much discussion about how so many of the shots on the show were seen through venetian blinds and chainlink fences. And then when I was scouring for clips I realized that there were three instances of dogs in cages or on leashes or behind fences and I knew I had a wonderful metaphor for being in prison, and what being in prison/in a cage can do to an otherwise nice dog/Charlie (there being an actual shot of a man in a cage with the dogs was just bonus, and that led to another level of appreciation for the show as I realized that having Roman keeping dogs and keeping that boy there was more than just the trend of bad guys abusing dogs being the ultimate sign of evil).

Thanks!

I do wonder, though, if it's clear that Charlie is filling that hole in at the end?

yeah, don't worry, it's clear! ^_^...but I love Charlie's dark side (and Charlie's back side, of course! ^_°)

Oh, this is fabulous! The song really works for Charlie and that side of him we don't often see. The one who still feels trapped by prison and so very angry because of it.

Thanks! The shows many shots viewed through actual chains made it so easy to get inside Charlie's head and explicitly state what this vid wanted to convey.

I actually noticed those shots... they like using that, another way to visually separate the show from other cop shows and I didn't actually catch it the first run... but Dani and Ted were portrayed in the same sort of prison thing too. For Dani it's because her demons are her prison or am I over thinking this bit?

You're not over-thinking, this is just one of the areas of the vid I think I failed a bit: in not trying harder to explore Dani's imprisonment. Harder because she lacks the visual crutch that Charlie and Ted had. But her past-- her past drug problem, her boozing and sleeping around, her issues with her father, these are all her prison. Those are the walls she rails against.
