[Roxas is not stupid. Let's just make that clear. He's a bit of a derp, yes, but he's not stupid and he's been keeping track of the days. Valentine's Day is very soon, and he knows that that usually means the Malnosso do everything they can to mess with them on the holiday ( Read more... )

roxas went over this on day 171, roxas clearly needs a hobby, valentine's day, question for the masses?, roxas is getting tired of not knowing, roxas is a derp, what's love?

I know a few real stories and a few fairy tales, but I can't say one is more common than the other. Just more well-known.

Are you looking for anything in particular?

I'm just looking for something that explains what love actually really means. Make sense?

Hah...well um, that's a pretty broad spectrum.

There's familial love, platonic love, romantic love, physical love...there's a lot of different kinds. I guess I could generalize it for you, if you'd like.

Generalizing will probably be easiest...why are they all different?

Getting into the spirit of the thing, hunh?

You could say that, sure. You and Axel both seemed to have a problem with it.

Me? Have a problem with it? Naaaaaah, I'm just curious.

It's kind of weird, isn't it? A holiday that pretty much requires you to have a heart to appreciate it. What are we supposed to do with it?

Dozens of love stories. I guess Romeo and Juliet is a really famous one.

I've read that one. It seemed like it was really old though. Is it just famous on your world, or others, too?

I'm truly not sure anymore. People here seem to think my world might have a lot of versions of itself.

It's pretty popular, considered the basic formula for a love-romance story. Boy meets girl, girl loves boy, boy can't have girl, they both get desperate and do something ridiculous.

Though hopefully most romances don't end in a suicide pact or there wouldn't be much left of the population, ne?

It's probably true though.

...well, not unless you brought them both back and they became Zombieo and Juliet. But somehow I don't think that has as good of a ring to it. It sounds kind of depressing though, why would people use that as a basic formula for love stories?

Depending on the era, you will find one or the other: Romantic Comedy or Romantic Tragedy. Tragedies have become far less common in the modern era. People dislike being depressed.

But a lot of the more famous love stories are romantic tragedies, aren't they? If people don't like being depressed, why would they like the stories?

They are famous because they became so at the time. They are considered classics now. But one simply cannot recreate that success with a similar formula any longer.

perplex_me February 12 2011, 23:20:37 UTC
If that's the case, then what are people doing now to create that success? I guess I mean...what's the new formula?

Well, are you looking for sappy, saccharine stories or the truth?

Reply

perplex_me February 12 2011, 00:52:32 UTC
Either or. Whatever's more common, I guess.

[Netherworld demon, ahoy.]

Ohohoh, the truth about love?

It's inconvenient, spreads like a disease, and makes a bigger fool out of you more than any joke or prank.

...sounds pretty negative if you ask me. Examples maybe?
