I'm prone to forgetting to review, or reviewing and forgetting all the stuff to mention, so I'm gonna try and review chapter by chapter. I'm only halfway through chapter one so far, but I'm already sure I'm gonna be reading this whole thing.

Great prologue! I love the reasoning used here for diverging from canon; it didn't seem forced or strange like many canon point changes end up. It made perfect sense, character wise, and I love the way you described Castiel weighing the choices and coming to a decision. Excellent start and great lead in for a fic that looks excellent.
