Oh, I love the idea of Ran as a Phoenix...
And the "He couldn’t hurt you, and now that you think about it, knowing that might have meant the world to him."
It's very strong, and even if I'm not sure she can be so strong, it's fitting, but an original view.

This has to be among my favourite things that you've written, and not just because it was for me.

It's a different take on the GinRan relationship, picking up on new angles is something you seem to be super good at, so now I'm extra pleased I asked for a pairing you're not used to writing.

Yay, I'm REALLY RELIEVED you liked it! The thing about me writing new things is it's usually pretty hit or miss (mostly miss), so I always worry. ^_^;; All I could really think to go on was that she seemed pretty bouyant (hur hur) as a member of the Rukongai team and there was probably a reason for that. >>

My personal opinion is that Rangiku is as big a master of disguise as Gin is. They both hide all their feelings behind an unfaltering smile, it's just that Ran manages to be more genuine about it. I'm not sure she's as indestructible as she thinks, but I'm sure that's the image she puts on. She's a very strong support beam, I don't think she could bear anyone worrying about her.

LOL Clearly I have not thought about this as much as you. But yeah, I can see her as sort of just being the type to roll her sleeves up and do her job and if it hurts she'll grit her teeth and bear it and come out in the end anyway, because she always does.

Or maybe I'm simplifying. I do that sometimes. XD

Great fic, really shows the differences between the different officers after the betrayal. In the anime/manga Ran just brushed it off without much explanation even though there was a huge connection to Gin. This really served to explain her point of view from a pretty deep perspective.

I figured more than her not really caring it was her having survived worse. It's the only way I could make sense of it to myself when I was thinking on her behavior.
