But D: Mikio. Even though he is OBVIOUSLY a woobie with a huge heart, this kind of just made me think of what would happen if his body finally failed him and Makio and his dad will just have to WATCH as this smart, smart person will be left a dribbling wreck, and everyday would get worse. Why did this fic make me so sad? There could come a day when Mikio CAN be as dumb as his brother, but then they'd all be crying stoicially too hard to notice. :(

I dunno. Everytime I see him. He's... he's the harbringer of DOOM. There's this aura of saddness around him I can't help but be blackholed into.

...was mikio THIS loveable in the original?? had him pegged more as the Sneaky Gay. i mean, i'd love to think this deep underlying loyalty is what underlies his attempts to take over, and i admit you see hints of his concern, but d00d. i think it was still motivated more by the ICHIGO GOMU NO KATAKI.

I could see it. Even after all the sneaky manipulation in the end, the fact that Mikio conceded after the votes were in and how there were no hard feelings after that just prove the strength of their bond as family. I have two brothers who spent all of high school trying to outdo each other but in the end, winner or loser, they could always sit at the couch and play video games together at the end of the day. The fact that you can clearly see how much Makio loves his brother (Like when he's yelling at Kazu for using Mikio's name and saying "my real brother is a hundred times smarter and greater than you") was also a big cincher for this theory for me, and that conversation they have about the strawberry eraser? THAT WAS PURE FAMILY. Because there were painful memories and funny memories and that they could just sit there and talk about it proved to me that Mikio really just loved his brother and his father and wished that he was closer to them. Their family is just... it's so great. ;_;

okok ::laughs:: you've sold me. i confess there were moments where i thought he felt some genuine concern, but on the whole i didn't think they developed it that well? i mean, the ending i felt implied that mikio would just go his separate way--he seemed fairly dead set against working UNDER his big brother. it would've been nice if they'd come to some sort of equal partnership, the way you portray them... but that is not addressed in the scope of the series, although i suppose we can't rule it out

Haha well. I like the options MBMH throws out in terms of pairings, because none of the characters were unlikeable that way. EVEN HOSHINO AND JUN HAD THEIR MOMENTS OF HEAVY HUGGING.

But yeah, as for Mikio I kind of take him as not completely uninterested in the family business like he says, especially the WAY he says things, since his tone is ALWAYS kind of misleading. I think he wants to be a free agent, but in the end, he'll be there for his family the SECOND they need him, whether from the shadows or in a more obvious role. It's kind of a "no one can mess with my brother but me" sort of vibe. He loves poking fun at Makio's stupidity, CLEARLY, but at the same time I get the feeling that horrible, horrible financial RUIN will befall anyone who tries to seriously hurt Makio. XD
