I'm not pro-choice. I'm very anti-abortion. The only reason I could see is maybe if the mom was going to die. (like in the case of that little girl that was molested and was so tiny that she wouldn't survive a pregnancy
( ... )
The thing is, I don't think he was performing elective abortions. These weren't women just deciding halfway through a pregnancy that they didn't want it anymore. These are women with catastrophic diagnoses- hydrocephaly or the like. I don't know of many human beings, these days, who are willing to kill a baby just because the mother doesn't want it. It's a heart-rending decision to have to terminate a pregnancy... how much harder to have to choose to end a pregnancy that you wanted, but cannot continue?
I know that in that situation... I wouldn't want to be accosted by people who claim to be Christians telling me that I'm a murderer. I'm dealing with enough.
I didn't know a lot about him before he was killed - although I had heard of the horrible protesting that had been done. His website is down, but I found this one with an exerpt from his page. It seems he did do elective procedures through 2nd trimester. And his reasons for "medically necessary" were very lax.
Given how many children I've seen that have died horrific deaths or suffered abuses at the hands of their own parents and caregivers? I say there's worse things than death.
I don't like late term abortions. I don't. But I can't see outlawing them. Without seeing their actual statistics, I can't take badly formatting pro-life websites as good sources for anything. They quote a video where he's welcoming people to the clinic. That doesn't mean it's "we'll kill your baby for whatever reason you want us to." Adn it doesn't mean women are flocking to him by the thousands just to kill their babies because they were too lazy to do it beforehand.
I haen't seen any credible numbers of documented cases where true late-term abortions (in my opinion, late term abortions are past viability) are performed for selfish, elective reasons. In fact, almost universally, all the anecdotal evidence I've seen have been from women who wanted their babies very much, but were given devastating news about their child's viability.
I'm very pro-choice, even more so since having been so miserably pregnant with Vivian. I do think in most cases of abortion of a healthy baby, adoption is a MUCH better and more responsible choice... but I'm not going to make people's choices for them.
What really puzzles me is people who want to ban the late-term abortion. Do they really think anybody goes through a gruesome late-term abortion for the heck of it? I mean, I honestly can't imagine people choose that unless there's something really, really wrong with the mother or baby.

They DO. I've seen people swear that there are many women who just can't be bothered to do one sooner, and are doing it because they couldn't decide, or whatever.
