I wouldn't mind being buried if it wasn't for the fact that the way we do it prevents our bodies from actually decomposing the right way. We're way too deep in the ground and enclosed in a rather airtight box. Natural decomposing only happens when a corpse is lying no more than 60 cm into the ground where there is still plenty of oxygene in the ground to start the process. I get that you can't leave bodies lying around half a meter under ground coz we'd get eaten by foxes and other scavengers immediately, but if it wasn't for that we'd be gone and absorbed back to the earth in no time. As it is it takes years for our body to break down properly. We just lie in the coffin as a mass of jelly forever. I don't think that thought is very nice, nor is it space efficient or energy preserving.
So yeah, the next best thing for me is cremation. I've been to many funeral services and they feel very good and proper, I think. I hope all goes well for you and your family *hugs*
