Lilacs

It's spring, and the warm carries the scent of Lilac. Often I will put a sprig of Lilac flowers in my car to make it smell nice. As a kid, I remember sucking the pollen out of lilac flowers for fun. I have long held a love for floral flavors and scents. There are so many, here are but a few of my favorites from other the years:

The honeysuckle is in bloom now here and I think it is the most incredible smell. Every time I smell it I literally have to stop and savor it. Every May/ June here you can smell honeysuckle on the wind all over.

*sigh*

I love honeysuckle, but there isn't much of it up here in Minnesota. When last I was in Seattle, I caught wild Jasmine in bloom; and that stopped me in my tracks.

Doctor Bashir once observed that Worf smelled of lilac.

I would love to try Cranberry Honey. I've tried a variety of honeys over the years. If you have any left, please bring some over some time! I bet it would make a nice mead, if one had enough of it.

I share your love of lavendar. I had a start of a good stand that I'd put out last year, but it got badly bit during the freakish Spring we had; I was out of town, and it didn't occur to me to call a neighbor and have her cover it for me. It's trying to come back, but I think I need to just yank it and start over. A neighbor in another house had a huge stand of lavendar by her front door...when you stood at her door, you were just bathed in it, it was such a wonderfully welcoming gesture...

My boxer had demodectic mange when I first got him to my house out of Boxer Rescue...a friend suggested a homeopathic treatment consisting of some water with lemon boiled in it with lavendar oil mixed in. It healed him up lickety split, and the house smelled amazing...

do you still have the recipe, please? I'd really like to have that- I work w/ Rescue.

It's pretty basic...one lemon cut up and boiled in a coupla cups of water, then when the water is cooling put in about 8-10 drops of the lavendar oil (which I got at a health food store). Mix it up really good before applying (the oil tends to separate out), and apply to the demodex spots. I think it stings a bit, but not too badly...it really seemed to do the trick. Hug the puppies for me!

I have several tins too, but I replenished my supply as they become depleted.
