So much has been said about this book, and so well, that I'm not even going to attempt to review it. Anyone reading this has either read it or at least decided whether or not they want to. I don't like horror so I don't have much opinion of these but all the novels are by men and there are only two short pieces by women, out of fifteen.

And the Locus winners have been announced, the three female winners were The Privilege of the Sword for Fantasy, Temeraire as best first novel and Ellen Datlow as best editor.

I gather that the foolish US title for this novel is "Movie Shoes". I sneer in the general direction of whatever editor or marketing director thought children were so stupid as to need linked titles even if they betrayed the books.

This is a very weird historical novel. I have no idea why it's nominated for the John W. Campbell Award unless the conceit of a book (Newton's Principia) narrating the story inherently makes it fantasy. Maybe it does. On thinking about it, yes, it definitely does.
