Of all Ishiguro's other work, this is closest to The Remains of the Day

That's very useful, alongside your other comments. I admit that the only Ishiguro book I've read is Remains, but I loved both it and the rather differently inflected film based upon it....

I really enjoyed this book when I read it too, though I did have some nitpicks about certain plot-points. Nothing that bothered me TOO much, though
