As to my meaning, I was going for more than simple legal protection.
Geas: Noun (pl. geasa) (in Irish folklore) an obligation or prohibition magically imposed on a person.
Charles Stross uses it in The Atrocity Files, his mash-up of a Lovecraftian world of monsters and powers affected through mathematical manipulation. And come to think of it, I have you to thank for turning me on to Stross, as well!
