Required Re-Hash of Ancient Lore: Ideological Idealism

Aug 31, 2013 11:27

Over five years ago, I wrote an LJ entry provocatively titled "The Hate Comes First". The title came from an article that I quoted regarding the psychological phenomenon called "splitting." ( Shall we review? )

I admit I was totally bewildered about this until your discussion with *yes justice* on t_p ( ... )

I'm not claiming to be an expert in Vietnam by any means. I just distilled what I thought were the interesting bits that no one talks about.

The discussion with YJ actually started here, where it got bizarre enough for me to re-hash this stuff from five years ago.

And I appreciate you commenting here, as long as you're not here to talk about talking. . . .

I just finished reading the thread you linked to. John (yj) is a very interesting guy, his background (that which I know of, from a number of convos) is absolutely fascinating (to me). I'm thinking that you and he have a lot more in common philosophically than not. (for example I think his original reaction about your Puritan comment is based on his atheism).

Oh crap, I think I just blew my welcome....I'm hopeless about talking about talking.

I just noticed there was much more discussion on t_p (I had gone over to check to see which "last line" I was talking about to make sure I was clear :D.

I will now go and read all that, I did notice you don't take crap from Lenny...good on you :D

By the by, I am the person who really does hurry up to get out of a parking space if someone is waiting..."so I've got that going for me"

Ah, but remember that the Penn State study noted that people say they are just as you claim to be, but actually act just the opposite. ;-)

I mostly give not a whit for college studies.

And I know I don't act opposite, even at my advanced age if I am walking across a street and I notice a car wanting to make a right turn, I will actually jog to get out of the way, so they can turn before the light changes.

And the quotes were because it was a Bill Murrey line from Caddy Shack.

Yes, studies. Learning. Data. The horror. ;-)

Haven't seen Caddy Shack. I know, I know, everyone has seen it. Everyone but me. There's a weird list of movies I have simply not gotten around to seeing, and that's one.
