In 2008, the price of fuel skyrocketed. All of the people barely able to afford their new and overpriced McMansion out in the boonies suddenly couldn't afford to get to work. Foreclosures followed. They continue. Until home prices get down to pre-bubble levels, they will continue ( Read more... )

Ask the following, repeatedly: "What will we do if the recession lasts longer than expected?" Pointing out that the economy won't be coming back like it was into the indefinite future is too alien to reach someone in hard denial.

At least this is a case of denial. In Toronto, the Mayor is convinced, and has convinced his constituents, that public transit and, even worse!, cycling, is tantamount to a war on cars - a war that must be stopped at literally all costs (http://tinyurl.com/3pe8eqv). Setting up an outdated infrastructure and dismantling one is need of further investment, and all for spite, is absolutely outrageous.
