I've been vocally against but largely absent from the debate about Seattle's proposed replacement for the Alaska Way Viaduct, a bore tunnel right through the heart of downtown. Just Google "Big Dig".

Whenever there is a major construction project, there is unprecedented opportunity for graft, fraud and corruption. We sure had it here.

I saw that while it was still under construction. My father-in-law worked for the Aquarium.

Damn, what a mess.

That's not to say these projects can't be great. We got a tunnel through downtown in '89 that works just great (Google "downtown seattle transit tunnel"). However, it works great because it's limited to transit. Amateurs don't get to play there with their cars.
