This Pharyngula post dredged up a lingering anger that I realize now I forgot to articulate. In it, PZ notes a Toys 'R' Us catalog with microscopes and telescopes. You know, science equipment for kids.

Or Australia nor NZ for that matter - lots of freeway capable scooters in sensible netural colours for sale in both countries - I did a great trip around the south island of NZ on an Indian-manufactured old-style-Vespa style scooter which was fabulous! ;)

It's definitely a US-centric problem. But then, you also have open licences straight off the bat unlike most places where restricted is the norm for the first year or two, so there HAVE to be some "underpowered" but freeway capable bikes - by law!

Underpowered but still freeway capable bikes? That's a contradiction around here. In this state at least, one doesn't need a special endorsement to ride something powered by an engine smaller than 50cc. Those scoots barely haul my mass up our proud Seattle hills.

Oh, and as an addendum, I went to the local Vectrix dealer yesterday (a new one). They had the Vectrix for US$5,000 off, making it affordable!

The bad news: The company is in receivership, and may not be around much longer. I'm not going to buy an orphaned bike again. That lesson I've learned. :(
