Vegas is also not smack-dab in a clot of earth surrounded by forests filled with power-pole sized trees. Where the wind howls seldom (like tonight), wood is good.
Quite true. Happily, with very little surface area, the poles are not in danger from wind, just from stuff blown by the wind. Most poles are in much greater danger from drunk drivers and cars skidding on ice and snow. As long as the trees along the lines are trimmed, things should be fine.
Take two years ago, for example. I worked in the East side and witnessed the mayhem all caused by PSE's short-sighted decision to balk at tree trimming along their lines for years. It took weeks to restore power to some areas, all because they tried to prune their budget first. They paid!
