If you only ever download one song I link, please, please let it be this.

spinART Records will celebrate the stateside release of Augie March's second album, Strange Bird, on September 14th. "Song in the Key of Chance" happens to be track six, and is about as representative of their sound as is possible for a single song, which is to say not ( Read more... )

This is likely the best album you will hear this year. Not being fan of sweeping generalizations about subjectivity, that's about as glowing an endorsement as I can give.

I endorse this statement without qualification.

The first statement! "Without qualification" meaning that I agree with it wholeheartedly.

See, now a top 50 is hard work, and I'll have to put a lot of thought into it. I will get there eventually. :)

sorry, i was being snarky!

what's weird is that a number that large almost strikes me as being easier - just open up the list of records i own and write down the ones i particularly love until the quota's reached. and it's a lot less complicated to name favorites than, say, the 50 'best' albums we've ever heard, even though there would be some overlap.

(only one list would feature the grateful dead's disco record, though.)

oh also - the computer with internet capabilities now refuses to read ugly but honest, but i was able to burn a copy on the imac. would you rather i send that to you or just upload the tracks?

'spinart records' is actually the spiritual name of one of my old neighbors in smartassville.

i hear it's more like a travelling circus, currently camped out in brooklyn. one of its denizens is said to serenade groundhogs while wearing a fez. perhaps you've encountered him?

if this one does half as well as it ought to, hopefully we'll get a domestic release of sunset studies as well. but until that happens i'm happy to make & send you a copy.

oh thank you for your generosity, that will make my days and evenings go smoother, especially in the fall when things start up. right now i'm in a lull, mostly.
