"Heart and Soul" to Realms.

Was going to send it to Writers of the Future for this quarter, but when I looked in my folder I realized I had already sent it there in Dec 06. Doh. It's a good thing I save the cover letters nowadays. Now I'm not sure what to do with it.

Erin, here's a little story about Writers of the Future: I won second place in 1997 with my story "The Gods Perspire." It won for the 4th quarter. I had submitted it earlier but it got rejected. Thing is, the primary judge (I believe it's Kathy Wentworth these days) may not remember a story rejected even as recent as the last quarter. Dave Wolverton (the first judge Back In The Day) told me and a few others writers that he was distressed during the 1996 cycle because he wasn't getting enough short humor--he was getting all long and dark stories, so he was deliberately looking for the short funny story to balance the antho. Mine was the enxt story in the stack--I was Right There so he snatched it up. Later, at the award ceremonies, I told him I'd submitted the same story earlier and I asked him why he didn't take it back then. He explained that he didn't remember seeing it, that it was probably in the stack of "funny" stories he was rejecting out of hand.
