"Heart & Soul" from Writers of the Future. Well ok, it's a contest so it's more like "didn't win" than "rejected". Apparently it placed in the quarter-finals.

Quarter finalist is good. It means you were among the top few--a dozen or so. It also means that your skills are Up There. The only thing that will keep you from winning now is a lack of persistence. You should be entering EVERY quarter, some story, any story. Do it religiously. If you can win, you will--if you will.
