Whenever I reread LOTR I am struck again by how Tolkien crafts his words so precisely. Yes, there are parts of the book (Council of Elrond, Tom Bombadil, etc) where he gets a bit carried away, but for the vast majority of the time his language is chosen to convey as much as possible, as precisely as possible, and as concisely as necessary.

well said. I love his language and i always think he uses language and words wisely and with intention.

It was an exquisite choice of words that first ignited my love for LOTR so many years ago...

He may become like a glass filled with a clear light for eyes to see that can.
