So of course everyone knows about the Amazon series coming in September? Fandom seems like half excited half nervous half dunno what to expect

I'm cautiously excited, I guess? The Hobbit movies disappointed me a lot, so I'm not as excited as I might have been otherwise, but I'm going in with a lot of hope that this will be a good adaptation. I know the music will be good: it's Howard Shore. *g*
It is Howard Shore but fandom seems torn to say the least- there are characters that are beyond Tolkien's descriptions and Amazon doesn't own the rights to Unfinished Tales and Silmarilion so it could be a lot of stuff that Amazon is making up just to make up. I am not sure if it'll still have the spirit of Tolkien in it so i am nervously awaiting. The trailer today at the Super Bowl will shed some light.
I'll be honest...I'm not as excited as I was about LOTR. I'm not sure whether that's because I'm older or whether I dread what a TV company will do to the works. I shall definitely check it out when it airs, but I am also not setting my hopes too high.
My hopes aren't high either since they do not have the rights to Sil or UT which has a lot of background info about Second Age and ancillary info that can help formulate the plot better. I am nervously awaiting and my excitement will not be the same as it was for The Hobbit which i was sorely disappointed as an adaptation.
I will certainly watch Rings of Power; but I am very concerned that the show will be more like an AU Middle-earth fanfiction series and not even as enjoyable as I found the HOBBIT movies.
If Galadriel indeed ends up in Numenor, then the show will be in AU territory. I wouldn't mind seeing Galadriel and Miriel having a spa day together and plotting the overthrow of Ar-Pharazon, but we'll probably get Galadriel becoming involved with Isildur and his sister (what happened to Anarion????).
If the mysterious guy who supposedly falls to Middle-earth in a meteor or whatever turns out to be Sauron, all bets will be off, we'll really be in fantasyland.
From the looks of it, it's going quite AU i do not know to the detriment to the spirit of Tolkien or if it'll add in things that we probably would like to know more about. I read a recent article of it having the linguistic aspects of Tolkien in it which is heartening but then i see pics that have hobbits look like oompa loompas from CHarlie and the Chocolate factory so i'm kinda scared and doubtful again.
