I love this. I love the POV and the way you begin with the quote from the song. All of that must have been so difficult for Bilbo to watch. There was nothing he could do but it must have given him so much pain.

Thank you so much! Your comments are so encouraging! I think it is hardest to be the one waiting so he and Merry were both showing a new kind of courage indeed. He must've felt lonely waiting those months.

I feel like there is much more that could be added- but, of course, that is very much a drabble's drawback. Drabbles, alas, barely skim the surface of most things. You did a great job at capturing your idea of elf traditions for winters though [=

Yes more can be added indeed! I would expand it if you want me to though! ;) I think he sleeps extra because canon wrote that he didn't work on his book much and he fell asleep even when Frodo was telling him about the Quest.
