The big Hobbit news of making it three movies....

And what it all means... :-0

Good articles that are for the extension of the 300 page Hobbit book to three movies:

Quoted from JW Braun found on TORN:
Here’s the thing: you can’t get too hung up on the number of pages, because when the filmmakers are adapting a book, they’re not looking at that. )

the hobbit news, three movies, the hobbit is on!!!!!!, omg

I wasn't too happy when I first heard it was three films but like you, I have read a lot of things on line and now I can see where, if done properly, it might be fine. I worry that part of the reason for the extension is due to his created Elf female character and if that's the case then I can see me not enjoying that at all, but if it's for more of the White Council or the Necromancer or the frame work that involves Frodo and Bilbo(Sir Ian) or even a bit more about the dwarfs themselves, that I think would be good.

As to the icons, I can give it a try. If I come up with anything, I will email you. The one I'm using is a hobbit icon but I haven't really made many of them yet.

HI GW! yes, i think i am thinking like what you are thinking. PJ quoted that he is thinking of more character development for each dwarf but that can only go so far in terms of keeping the audience interested i feel. If he goes as far as expand the OC, Tauriel, i'm not going to be too happy. I hope that we see where Gandalf went when he left the dwarves and Bilbo which would be good entertaining gap-filler from the book BUT i wouldn't like it if the movies felt like it would be "bread spread over too much butter".
Thank you fro keeping me in mind if you make iconses. :)

I think that the reasoning I've seen for the three movies makes me less concerned about it being too stretched out.

Honestly, I think this time PJ wants to leave less stuff on the cutting room floor-- if he makes it the way he wants to from the start, he won't have to go to the trouble of an EE when the videos come out. The good thing about this is that the added material won't crowd out so much source material (which is one of my main nitpicks with LotR).

I've been very reassured by the insistence that there's no "bridge" film, which had me worried.

I'm glad it isn't going to be a bridge film either! I hope that each movie won't be terribly long and we will see that PJ made a good choice for the fans to make it three movies not for financial reason. :p (which would really suck.

I just hope also that the appendices stuff they do include will be made interesting for the standard movie-goer and won't be too confusing...

Well, I wasn't too thrilled when it was two movies. Now it's three, I'm less inclined to see them. They could justify it all they want, but it is a money grab. This book is not that important, and I fear all those extra minutes are going to be taking up with overly long action sequences.

Overly long action sequences are quite a concern. :p I wasn't thrilled either but i just hope for the best! If the first movie delivers, i'm going to be rewatching like the old days of RotK! =)

Happy belated, btw-- i really thought of you a lot yesterday, preciousss~
did your cell phone change or it's the same as 3 years ago?

:hugs:

not sure I 'need' to comment, but I thought two movies was excessive, three is overkill in my mind. If he had wanted to be so thorough, why not make the original six movies - this reeks of wanting to make truck loads of money...

Yes, i thought so at first though and of course part of the motivation is that but hopefully it will not feel stretched out... i'm trying to be hopeful. :P
