One Day (!) and Fanfiction

Nov 16, 2005 20:15

Alright, so what would the opening of GoF be like if I didn't have some sort of HP fanfiction to release in celebration of it? Thus, I present the (very) rough draft of the (rather short) first chapter of my Snape-centric version of Book 7. The WIP novella is tentatively titled 'The Half-Blood Prince and the Boy Who Lived,' as it's going to focus ( Read more... )

Very nice. It really is a very different interpretation of the after events. I loved that Snape is tightly controlled and you feel such a sympathy for this man who had to do the awful. His observations of Draco were so keen. Only Severus knows the truth.

Thanks! I've purposely tried to avoid reading fanfiction the last few months so that my view of things wouldn't be tainted; therefore, if this is a different launching ground than others have, then that's great. I'm glad Snape comes off as 'tightly controlled'--that's exactly what I was aiming for; poor guy, he's always got to hold himself together, doesn't he? Sympathy is *precisely* what I feel for him.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

I thought you put it well, that he is jealous of Harry replacing him, too. I think poor Severus suffered so much that he took Albus to be his parent. But, he was so messed up as a kid, he couldn't relate to sharing or empathizing very well. Albus tried, but he was just too injured.

As always you have Severus (and the others) completely in character. When reading your story, I felt like I was actually reading a continuation of HBP. That detail with the 30 pieces of silver was brilliant.
I wonder if you have seen Red Hen's essay on Snape's loyalty?

Oooooh I love your icon--you always have the best icons. The Narcissa/Severus shipper in me couldn't resist writing the scene between them.

I'm honored that it felt so canonical for you! I think Snape is a lot like Judas: it was necessary that he kill in order for things to advance to the next level, he doubtlessly hates himself for having been dealt such a card, and he has a bad rep. Again, I couldn't resist noting the similarities.

Nope--haven't read the essay, but I'll be *sure* to check it out before I write much more--thanks for the tip! :)

Thanks! I'm crazy about icons, and my Narcissa icon is from carlalute.
Yes, at least on the surface we can compare Snape and Judas, but I believe their motives are radically different. The other members of the Order probably see Snape as Judas now.

Eh. I only took one picture of the bar, I'm not in it, and it came out blurry. Sorry to dissapoint (my friend, Alfred, said he was having a shitty week and wanted a nice quiet place ot have a drink, so I went with him for a little while), but I have no blackmail pics today. :-( It wasn't even a good model for this scene. I DO, however, have a pic of the treefrog who's condominium is an orchid on my front porch!

I have lots of Voldie pics Ive drawn in the previous months, but I hear that his movie version is wierd -- like he doesn't have a nose! Damn this creative liberty! He's supposed to have "SLIT-LIKE NOSTRILLS", like a snake, or a Gila monster! If Rowling would have done a little more herpetological research, it would have been REALLY cool if he had pits between his eyes and his nostrils, and use them to sense people hiding from him. Rattlesnakes and pit vipers have these to locate prey. That, or a tail with a little rattle on it! :-P
