However, people with higher chemical education are not always upscale perfumers (“noses”). Most “noses” enter the profession directly working as assistants to perfumers and only then become perfumers themselves.

Not always acute sense of smell is the main prerequisite for any career in perfumery, but, on the contrary, in the general opinion, exceptional insight (over-olfactory sensitivity) is not required. It is enough to have a healthy sense of smell and the ability to distinguish odors. The skill in perfumery is more related to what the brain does with smell perception than with perceptions themselves.

To succeed in this profession, it is enough to have a normal sense of smell and interest in it. Further, a long and constant training, as well as excellent memory for smells, a developed sense of organoleptic analysis and perfume synthesis, form professional qualities characteristic of this profession.

The distinctive features of the perfumer’s creativity and production activities should be: a sense of proportion and style, dynamism and richness of the plot, together with modern technology for processing products
